A local by-election is a metaphor for everything that is wrong with the Tories.

The Tories are a party in disarray.

The Tories are fighting a by-election today in Crewe, sadly it is an example of everything that is wrong with the Conservatives.

In June Labour won back the Crewe and Nantwich Constituency from the Tories, this was a huge effort organised and led by local grassroots members, their efforts put in place the foundation for victory.

Everything that is wrong with the Tories was highlighted that night.

The polls had closed and members of the Crewe and Nantwich Labour Party all gathered with MP to be Laura Smith, a team united by a goal to return Crewe and Nantwich red.

Contrast that with the Tories, the incumbent MP, Edward Timpson arrived late then shut himself away in a room upstairs while the people who put in the graft for him were left downstairs.

That didn’t go unnoticed by the Tory faithful on the night, how must that have felt to be snubbed by their own MP, one of their own members?

That one incident perfectly highlighted the disconnect between the Tory hierarchy and its grassroots membership, us and them, is it any wonder the Tory membership is now reported to be below 100,000?

Labour on the campaign trail

It has been a busy time for members locally in Crewe and Nantwich, members have been pounding the streets speaking to residents helping our candidate in the Crewe East by election, Joy Bratherton.

The same attention to detail and planning that saw us return an MP back in June has been replicated again.

There has been a huge effort from the members, multiple door knocking sessions everyday for the whole campaign, members giving up their free time listening to residents and feeding their concerns back to local Labour Councillors.

All this effort has not gone unnoticed, Jeremy Corbyn himself met Joy during the Labour Conference, he knew she was the candidate, there is no disconnect between Labour grassroots and its MP’s.

Supporting the members locally, no less than eight Labour MP’s have visited Crewe to help canvas, contrast that with the Tories, not one of their MP’s has set foot in Crewe to help their candidate, how must that feel when you see the support your opposition is getting.

It also hasn’t gone unnoticed that the local Tories seem to be copying what we did back in June, however they are not having the same success.

It doesn’t get any better for the Tories locally when it comes to social media, their Facebook page has paltry 81 people who follow them, contrast that with the Crewe and Nantwich Facebook page, 2,681 followers.

The same story on Twitter, the local of Tories have a measly 21 people following their account, Crewe and Nantwich Labour Party, 706 followers.  Locally people don’t appear to want to hear what they have to say.

The Tory machine is faltering

Both locally and natiaonally the Tories are devoid of ideas, lead by a woman so weak she can’t sack the man plotting against her; Boris Johnson is untouchable and he knows it.

The Tory machine is paralysed and Labour are having a field day, the only downside is that we are probably going to have to wait until 2022 for the next General Election.

As for policies, they have none, unless of course they are stealing Labour’s, it wasn’t that long ago the idea of a energy price cap was rounded upon by the Tories, now it is party policy.

Now, that magic money tree, that thing that Labour plucks money from, well it seems the Tories now have one too, this week they have promised almost £20 billion of uncosted spending, while they are short of members, short on ideas it seems they are not short of hypocrisy.
